Electrification & Plant

This is my clamp meter. I take it everywhere with me on the job, whether I’m routinely measuring the current within cables or I’m out helping to fix a fault. Depending on my shift – and you have to do nights and weekends as well as days, it could be two in the morning or three in the afternoon. But it’s because this cable runs alongside and heats the points to stop ice forming, that what I’m doing is essential for the smooth running of the railway – especially in winter. Whatever time of year, the great thing is that I’m outdoors, I’m working with a team of experienced people, I’m learning, I’m doing something really satisfying and I’ve got a real future in front of me. My clamp meter is part of what I do. And I use it every day.
